Ionized vs Photoelectric Smoke Detectors

2Gig Smoke Detector

Overview

The monitored smoke detector offers life-saving protection from fire.  As a life-saving device particular attention should be made when determining the best location for the sensor.

The Smke3 is a photoelectric smoke detector, meaning it detects the larger, darker types of smoke from burning plastic, sheetrock, and other engineered types of materials.  Photoelectric smoke detectors detect a home fire (on average) by several MINUTES faster than the common smoke detectors found in homes.

A 2nd and 3rd zone can (should) be programmed to detect Heat and Freeze.

Note:  DO NOT install in commercial accounts.

Programming

  1. Enter Zone Programming and select the zone you wish to program the sensor into

  2. Tap Edit Zone

  3. Select sensor type (Type 09, 24 hr Fire)

  4. Select the equipment code (Smke3)

  5. Type in the TXID serial number, or select Learn and then tamper the smoke detector by twisting the sensor counter-clockwise and slightly removing from the backplate, then reattaching.

  6. Under Equipment Age select New (do NOT use existing smoke detectors)

  7. Choose an appropriate voice descriptor.

To program the heat and freeze detectors:

  1. Select new zone

  2. For Heat detector use Type 09; For Freeze use Type 08, and select equipment type as Temperature
